SMS (spunbond / meltblown / spunbond) nonwovens already give excellent barrier properties on their own.

Laminating them to breathable or non-breathable film adds complete impermeability to liquid penetration while the fabric still breathes. Meltblown and viscose dry-laid nonwovens laminated to film serve absorbent uses, where liquid is held in the absorbent layer and the film stops leakage.

Felix produces composite structures and laminates for medical applications. Most are used in disposable medical articles such as gowns, table covers and absorbent materials.
